"Non sono una donna a sua disposizione"

In an attempt to become more acquainted with Italian culture, I have read a New Yorker article about the state of Italian women. This article came out in response to long time Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's potentially largest single scandal to date, which every Italian has an eye on, but also covers a more deep-seated cultural perception of women in Italian society. After reading this, I find myself wondering how much I will see and feel the prevailing patriarchy and feminist response presented in this article. Expect this to be a recurring theme in the coming months.

And if this seems to be a political bore, read it anyway for the wildly crude and informal public image "il Presidente" has cultivated for himself. He's outlandish in a way no American politician has ever been.
